Supporting a Cross-Government Approach
The William Gomes Podcast has joined a broad coalition of organisations in supporting a joint response to the UK Government’s Freedom from Violence and Abuse: a cross-government strategy.
This response brings together organisations across safeguarding, advocacy and public policy to emphasise that any national strategy must be grounded in lived experience and sustained, long-term support. It calls for a co-ordinated approach that recognises the complexity of violence in all its forms, including domestic abuse, sexual violence and the disproportionate impact on marginalised communities.
Accountability, Prevention and Long-Term Change
Central to the response is the need for consistency across government. Ending violence and abuse cannot be addressed in isolation. It requires alignment across housing, health, immigration, justice and social care, alongside meaningful investment in specialist services that support survivors with dignity.
The submission highlights the importance of prevention through education, early intervention and addressing the wider social and economic conditions that allow abuse to persist. Without this, policy risks remaining reactive rather than delivering lasting change.
A Credible and Deliverable National Strategy
By adding our name to this response, The William Gomes Podcast supports a call for a strategy that is not only ambitious in language, but credible in delivery. Public commitments must be matched by accountability, transparency and long-term funding that reflects the scale of violence and abuse across the UK.
